Finally done. Trust me that whatever you pay an upholsterer is money
well-spent!

From the Droid.

Built a rain-catcher. Don’t want to bail water again. This box is open at
the bottom so the water coming in the window drops to the French drain then
to the sump and out.

So far, the rate of rain has been manageable. I also installed 100-ft of
solid drain hose to get the water away from the foundation.

The Bobcats played the Wildcats last night. It was Andy’s second performance with the CHS Band. Next week, they will play before a home crowd when CHS takes on Anderson Co. High School. They get their uniforms so they’ll be in full-form.

Andy is playing his “new-to-him” trigger trombone that was donated to CHS by a band member from the 60′s. He’s proud of it and is doing really WELL!

Andy said it was a hair magnet. It’s suede. He picked it. Now he says he
needs some pillows.

Tight perm is just what the doctor ordered. Might last a while.

All that’s left is the finish: Boiled Linseed Oil, Blonde Shellac, and
topped off with poly. We tried the mattress on it just to see if everything
fit. It did. Not long before it’s done.

I got the back done and started on the seat. I wanted to see the hardware in action. Beds are tough in my small shop.

3/4 inch deep grooves routed in the ends to accommodate the futon hardware. You can’t see it well in this photo but the armrests are made of 4/4 African Mahoghany. I will plug the screw holes with plugs cut from a scrap piece of Ash.

Progress! Stretchers attached with knock-down bolts. Halfway done. Now time to build the frame that will support the full-size mattress.

It has begun.

Visited with mom a bit on Memorial Day Weekend. Good spirits. Hot! Didn’t sit outside too long. She wanted to go inside.

Theatrical. Fun. They looked great!

Mom has that friendly demeanor where if you were to step on her foot, she would tell you that she was sorry.

It’s that Southern, accommodating nature that extends to the sweet-tea boundary – you know the place. It’s the geographic boundary where the restaurants stop serving iced tea with sugar in it. Mom didn’t use foul language. That is, not until after her brain injury, she could come up with a string of “golf-words” that didn’t include “FORE, or HOLE-IN-ONE! The neurologist says those words come from our gator brain and are not a reflection of higher thought patterns. That explains a lot.

The story goes that when Dad asked Mom to marry him, she responded with, “I reckon.” to this day when she’s asked a question, she’ll respond with, “I reckon” leaving you to judge the response as lukewarm or enthusiastic so you can really tell if that’s what she wants or is just being accommodating.

Sometimes I think that mom’s loss of mental faculty is a blessing. She truly lives in the moment, unable to remember the past and incapable of imagining what’s going to happen next. I sit and watch her, wondering what she would do if we weren’t around to tell her it’s time to eat, bath or sleep.

Mom loves music. Not ALL music as she is quick to tell you which ones she wasn’t “that crazy about.” She will sit and sing along with the Reader’s Digest CD’s for hours, hitting all the words. She likes classical piano music too. She would stop eating on a Sunday morning, cock her head so her ear was lined up and say, “…oh, that’s so pretty!”

One morning, sitting on the deck, Mom strained her eyes and squinted towards Ftn. City, saying that the sky looked, “fuzzy,” unable to come up with “foggy.” She pointed to the sky and say, “there’s the moon!” I would explain to her that it was the sun, shining through the “fuzz.”

Happy Mother’s Day

At one point, Jayne estimated the water coming into our basement was streaming at around 10-gallons/minute. It took both of us to stay ahead of it. While I emptied, Jayne collected the next bucket. It was a long night.

It was either this wrap to hold the ice or one of those cones they put on dogs to keep them from scratching their ears. I guess the cone would have been good for filling up with ice around my face. Not sure how the drainage would work. This thing worked great. Held ice packs in just the right spot.
